Klaksvík

The second town — a working fishing port around a deep harbour, and the gateway to the northern islands.

Population 4,900 · 2026 Jul

Getting the place ready

Klaksvík is built around a harbour that cuts deep between two mountains, and it still runs on fish. It has a high street, a brewery, a swimming pool and enough services that you can restock properly before heading further north.

It is the departure point for the Kalsoy ferry, which is the main reason most visitors come, and the practical base for Viðoy and Kunoy.
