Saksun sits in a natural amphitheatre around a lagoon that drains almost completely at low tide. It is one of the most photographed places in the country and one of the least equipped.

The land is privately farmed and access has been genuinely contentious. Park only where marked, do not cross fences, and read current signage rather than an older guide.
